Freshman year at Rick's College I came back from a weekend trip and walked into my house to find that a the very large hallway mirror had fallen off the wall and shattered all over the place making it really hard to walk around the house without getting glass shards in feet. I exclaimed "girls the mirror fell! Did you hear it?". The response I got was from a girl named Becca......."Uh yeah (duh) it happened three days ago." I was confused so I asked "You have just been walking around it? Why didn't you pick it up?" Becca "I called the landlord, she's supposed to come over and do it."
This attitude of Becca's might explain why we never hit it off, and why she eventually chose to live on a friend's couch instead of our apartment.
I was reminded of this story this last month when I moved into my new place here in Roosevelt and discovered the tub had a gnarly hair clog. I grew up with 6 hairy (long hair) sisters and have had over 100 female roommates and I would describe this as the worst clog of my known existence. I asked a few questions and discovered my roommates have been living with this clog for almost 6 months. The water literally doesn't drain more than a drip while showering and you almost have to end your shower early to avoid a tub overflow. Sick right?
So I decided (stubbornly) that this clog was not my problem to fix. I had just moved in and hadn't contributed and I assumed my new roommates would realize that it should be fixed. Their solution? "We've already called the landlord like three times. I mean she hasn't done anything!" It almost seemed as if they were referring to the landlady as "lazy" and all I could think was .....never mind I won't bore you any longer with my thoughts on the uselessness of my roommates.
Suffice it to say I went to ace hardware, spent $3.49 on a Zip it clog drain snake thinger and 5 minutes after arriving home the drain was perfect.
My roommates call me "handy" and I'm concerned I've become an incompetence enabler.
Basically I have a problem with people who assume they can't fix something, or do something just because they have never tried. Or people who expect others to take care of things because of some sort of entitlement due to position. ugh. Grow up and get it done!

my brother and his friends had been living with me for the past 2 years, and my brother had been, forever. between the 4 of them they can barely boil water, figure out how to mail a letter, and have been known to google what to do when bleeding profusely.
then i moved into my own place. i love living in my own place. its awesome.
