not settled

So much going on right now.

I think at some point in my life I'll own a little house in a nice place and buy my groceries every Friday...but right now my life still feels up in the air.

Suffice it to say, I'm a bit unhappy with work right now. I would elaborate but considering I'm the consummate professional about these things it would be unprofessional to say any more.....ahem.

So I've applied about four places that run similar programs to where I currently work. I've had two interviews and hope to have a few more before months end. Utah is a sort of the Mecca for adolescent treatment programs in the US, so for now I think I'll try to stick around here. In Oregon, most of their programs are in Bend, and I don't want to live in Bend.

I'm home for a week. Fletch got back from his mission and we're having a family reunion this week at the beach. Good times WILL be had.

I'm in charge of one activity that I have decided to call the "Miller Fan Olympics". In honor of the recent summer Olympics (London) I've devised a series of three team events that all revolve around a large ceiling fan that my father recently removed from my parent's family room. We updated by getting a newer fan that had a lower profile so the old one had to go.

We've lived in the home about 25 years and this fan has been a major fixture. Whenever turned on it would hum and buzz and rock slightly back and forth. I remember being sick as a kid, holed up on the couch with a paper barf bag watching the fan spin around and around, always wondering if it might rock itself from its mooring and come crashing down.

Dad had a heck of a time getting the old thing down and when he did he discovered it had been attached to a large hook in the ceiling, and the hook had facilitated the slight rocking we had always noticed. Surprising thing about the fan was its weight. Unlike the new fan, the old fan was solid metal and really pretty heavy. Dad took it down and we all took turns trying to lift it with one hand. Difficult.

So it was suggested that the old fan, dusty as it was, be used at our upcoming family reunion. We will have a discus type event, a running relay, and a weight guessing contest. I've prepared prizes and medals and I am very excited to see who wins. Dad spent some time today attaching a rope handle to the main fan body to allow for ease of handling in the games.

It will be historic. I don't want to sound too full of myself, but I think this may be the first time anyone has ever held an even that is based around their old ceiling fan. We're pretty cool that way.
