Lost

I hate it when you put something in a safe place and then you can't find it when you go looking. I once misplaced my patriarchal blessing for about two years. I would have this urge to read it but couldn't. I had to just recite as much of it as I had memorized.

Well now I've gone and misplaced my lucky french button. It's not really lucky (at least not that I know of yet....) but I need it and it's nowhere to be found.

This spring while in France Haley, Marcene, and I took the train out of Paris to explore the beautiful city of Versailles. The history of the place is awesome not to mention all the awesome things to look at.

While we were enjoying the gounds out back (where all the naked statues are) I looked down to see something in the loose gravel at my feet. It was a button. Now that I type this I'm sure I've mentioned it on this blog before, but regardless, it was a button and I believe it was pretty stinkin old.

So I stole it.

Now I can't find it and I'm peeved. I just dug through every box in the garage like some manic meth fiend.
But I did a little Internet research, which these days counts as real research and I want to show you some evidence that points to the "oldness" of my button.

This last picture on the left is what the back of my button looks like. The front of it however is covered with some sort of primitive (yep, I used that word) denim fabric. Haley clued me into the origin of Denim which got it's start in France. Each of the old buttons above are  from the 1700s and early 1800s.

I doubt anyone finds this of interest. I figure you are either and Antiques Roadshow type or you're not. I happen to be which is why I'm intrigued. Not quite sure if my button is 300 years old how it managed to maintain denim cloth attached for that long out in the french elements - but if it did....that makes it so much cooler!!

Now if only I could find it.
