March update

Called my dad today and he gave me the latest update on the house projects he's working on. About a month ago I gave him a call and his voice sounded muffled and he seemed out of breath. I asked what was going on and he said "I'm up in the attic installing some new Can lights for your mom. But don't tell her. She's out of town and I want to see if she notices when she gets back." I of course didn't tell, but I was glad I caught him when I did. He was up in the attic and no one knew. If he had expired up there no one would have found the body for awhile.

Well today he was working on the main upstairs bathroom in our home. Growing up we had a three bedroom two bath home. Shortly after moving into the house, I was seven at the time, I used the downstairs bathroom and saw a series of the scariest spiders I had ever seen. I decided then and there I would never use that bathroom again, and as the oldest child tried to influence my younger siblings to do the same. In my mind it wasn't safe down there, and never would be. Funny thing is, it wasn't that bad of a bathroom. Dad even came in and lowered the shower head for us shorties so that we could be closer to the warm water, Nice of him, huh?

Still I never used it and as you can imagine the upstairs bathroom got most the use, so over the years it's racked up its share of mileage. Anyhow....back to dad. He decided to redo the floor in there, as over time the wood had weakened and it seemed to me (I could be wrong) but I think the toilet was slightly crooked. So he pulled out the toilet and asked mom to clean it up while he ripped out and replaced the subfloor. Thing is he was too lazy to put it in the backyard so he brought it out front where I guess my mom quickly hid it by a bush and threw a tarp over it. I really wish I could've seen this for myself. A toilet in the front yard would really be high class for my family. Apparently my uncle, who lives with my folks wrote a letter to a cousin and told him he came out today to see a squirrel sitting on the toilet reading the Oregonian! Ha!

I should mention that about 12 years ago my folks added onto our home and upgraded to 6 bedroom and 4 baths. That's part of the reason this remodel took awhile. We added on all new stuff and didn't bother to update the old....til now.

I'm gonna head home for a quick visit in a few weeks and I'm excited to see all the work my folks have done. Maybe I'll post some pics for siblings who I'm sure are also curious!
