I got pretty homesick during my recovery from surgery so I bought some plane tickets home for mom's birthday. Turns out it was pretty weekend to come home.
Mom and I went out for lunch on Friday and later that night I was able to meet up with friends for dinner and the opening night of "The Hunger Games". I had been determined to finish the book before seeing the film, but everything was checked out in Roosevelt, even the school I work at didn't have a copy free. Thankfully I mentioned my plight and Christine lent me her copy.
Oh joy! I really enjoyed the book and finished it last night. The movie was also really cool. It moved fast though and missed out on some real growth oprotunites. I sorta wish that they had split it in half and stretched it over two films. Like before the games and then the games.
I was joking with Ryan that I think my lack of friends and romance in Roosevelt is getting to me, cause I think I'm enjoying books more. As in I think they may be starting to replace a real life. Sad huh?
Saturday morning I got breakfast at Genie's with Nikki and Danielle. It was so good to see friends from school. I've really been missing our regular visits and care for each other in our work. Danielle is now expecting her first child! I would always give her a hard time about not having babies yet. It was always done out of a selfish desire of mine to have more babies around. She looks great and seems to be progressing well. She has her maternity leave figured out. Nikki is also doing so great. Her lifelong asthma was recently re-diagnosed as a form of vocal chord dysfunction and it turns out it's reversible. How awesome is that! The whole time we were in school she was having horribly health issues and had no answers and now here she is doing so much better!
Saturday evening mom, dad, Tams, Sam, the two exchange students and i all went to a seafood grill place called Seasons and Regions over across from the MJCC. It was totally yummy. I order the staff favorite (Baja fish tacos). The Japanese exchange student is very new to the country and I'm concerned that some of my table manners may have been observed and reflected during dinner. For example, the waitress took away our oil/vinagar dipping plate for the bread so I was lazy and just put some oil directly on my bread. Mistake! The oil didn't stay on the bread and got everywhere, turning my place setting into and effective grease pit. But Hyauto mimicked me and reproduced the same mess. Later I squeezed my lemon over my tacos and then tossed the spent lemon into my ice water for flavor. He also did this.
Saturday was also the wedding of some friends of mine. Tracee, Ryan and I stopped by target to get them a gift. We decided on some fancy knives they had registered for. While I'm on it....what's up with over priced duvet covers at target?
I got a two hour Shiatsu massage while home as well. I'm a bit sore from it but my neck and left shoulder blade feel so much better. I had never done a shiatsu before. It has a lot of stretching and pulling as opposed to deep muscle rub. There's also something where they pull up your skin and pinch it and you feel like your skin might rip off. I tried to tough it out but when it was done across my abdomen I had to cry uncle.
Ryan and I hit up and evening performance of Wicked on Sunday. Tams and Sam went the day before as did Ryan L. and JonJon. It is seriously such a fun show. I was joking with Ryan, cause he really gets excited about new food and restaurants and I sorta go along with it...but I told him I get excited about theatre and shows like Wicked. We got tickets last minute and ended up four rows from the front on the very far right wall. Amazingly all the folks to our left in the row didn't show so we bought 63 dollar tickets but ended up in 110 dollar seats. We were so close we could see all the facial expressions and good stuff. I loved it! Fiyero's voice was shot and it was a little awkward in a few places but ultimately beautiful!
Mom has to work all day so I said bye to her this morning and will probably just enjoy my day off before heading over to the airport to fly back. Living two and a half hours from the airport has become my new challenge in life. It's a bit unpleasant to land and know you still have a dark drive before you get back.
This weekend is conference so I'll probably head back to SLC to spend time with Corey who will be up visiting from Albuquerque. After that all my weekends are crazy booked for the rest of the month. It should be fun if I make sure to take care of myself and get sleep.
Oh, for my siblings I'll include a few shots of dad's progress on the upstairs bathroom. It's being returned to it's glory days! Oh Joy!

Yeah, Fiyero was not good. Glinda and Elpheba were great though!
oh I'd love to see wicked again. That bathroom never had a glory day in it's life!
Hayato. So close. (Good seeing you this weekend.)
I was going to say the same thing as Marcene. Maybe its glory days were in the 50's when the house was first built, but we never saw it.
its awesome when doctors figure out your health issues are actually fixable! yay!!!
